Prof. Chao Xu Honored as 2025 Fumio Tatsuoka Lecturer for Groundbreaking Research

On March 3, 2025, Prof. Chao Xu from CCE was named the 2025 Fumio Tatsuoka Lecturer by the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) in recognition of his remarkable contributions to geosynthetics research. Established in 2022, the Fumio Tatsuoka Lecture series celebrates the industry’s most pioneering practitioners for their outstanding work. Prof. Xu, Chair of IGS China, has devoted his career to advancing both the research and education in geosynthetics, ground improvement, and geotechnical investigation (in-situ testing) for more than 3 decades. His work has not only advanced scientific knowledge but also provided practical frameworks for application in the field. Prof. Xu’s academic journey began at Tongji University, where he earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. Today, he serves as a faculty member in the Department of Geotechnical Engineering, mentoring future engineers through courses such as Engineering Geological Investigation, Geosynthetics, and Fundamentals of Hydrogeology. His ongoing work continues to shape research and education in the geosynthetics domain.
